Liberty Industrial Nominated For Multiple Safety And Training Awards

Liberty Industrial’s innovative training program has been shortlisted as a finalist for multiple safety and training awards

Liberty Industrial’s demolition training program has been nominated for multiple Safety and Training Awards.

The program has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2019 National Safety Awards of Excellence for the Best WHS Training Program Award and is also a finalist for the 2019 World Demolition Awards in the Safety and Training Award category.

Liberty Industrial’s National HSEQ Manager, John Harris, has been nominated a finalist for a Safework NSW Award for Best Individual Contribution for his contribution to the development of the training program.

John and the Liberty Industrial team have developed and implemented a comprehensive training and capacity building initiative to ensure the availability of competent and suitably qualified personnel for the delivery of technically complex demolition and remediation projects.

The initiative saw the development of oxy cutting and excavator operator training packages that provide a formal career pathway in the demolition and remediation industry. In Australia there is no nationally accredited training program for the high risk oxy cutting skill set required in the industrial demolition industry so Liberty Industrial embarked on developing its own training program to safely introduce untrained personnel into the demolition and remediation work environment.

These training packages focus on the development of employable skills and provide entry level employment opportunities for priority groups including young Australians and unskilled individuals with lower education levels.

The backing of Liberty Industrial’s progressive senior leadership team has been pivotal to the program’s success, with a significant commitment of resources and capital invested to support the program, including state-of-the-art Volvo excavator operator simulation technology that travels between Liberty Industrial project sites in a purpose built trailer unit that has been converted into a mobile training centre.

“Liberty Industrial are significantly invested in our people; in training and in professional development that supports our high performance culture” said Liberty Industrial Director, Simon Gill. “Investment in personnel training and professional development has never been more important with shortfalls in skilled frontline roles such as Plant Operators are set to increase in coming years.”

“The successful delivery of future projects is underpinned by ensuring a capable and qualified workforce is able to be mobilised.” “Well done to Liberty Industrial’s National HSEQ Manager John Harris who has been instrumental in driving this initiative” added Gill.
