Project Overview
Liberty Industrial was engaged by Air Liquide to execute the demolition and remediation of their Carba Road CO2 facility near Mt Gambier in South Australia.
Liberty Industrial was required to liaise with local environmental consultants to complete pre-demolition hazardous material investigation and soil investigation, classification and validation works as remediation works progressed.
The project included the demotion of the CO2 process infrastructure including 2 large CO2 pressure storage vessels. Hazardous material including residual hydrocarbon and asbestos was completed in-house by Liberty Industrial personnel. Other large below-ground concrete storage tanks and sewer systems were demolished and removed from the site with backfilling of voids completed to the geotechnical requirement for compaction utilising imported VENM soil material.
Soil remediation includes the excavation and removal of asbestos impacted soil, excavation, treatment and removal of hydrocarbon impacted soils, and decommissioning of both the CO2 and
groundwater extraction wells.
